“But ask the animals and they will instruct you. Ask the birds of the sky and they will tell you. Or speak to the earth and it will instruct you. Let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? The life of every living thing is in His hand, as well as the breath of all mankind.”
Job 12:7-10
Last Sunday, after watching our church service online, Jeannie and I took a ride. We went to the church and sat in the empty parking lot for a while and thought about all that has been happening.
Then we drove to one of our favorite places: a park near Thurmont that has become a very special place for us. In past visits, we have seen bluebirds, deer, even fawns. It is a place that on most visits refreshes my soul.
I breathed in the cool, spring air… but the glory of God’s creation couldn’t hold my attention this time. There was so much to do. So many things that needed my attention.
Then I felt sad for losing my view of His splendor.
Nearby, yet not too close to violate the social distancing rule, was a young family with a toddler all bundled up, having the best time. That seemed to lead me away from my inward focus and I thought, as the parents helped that toddler to remain upright and protected: “God will lead us.”
We will falter from time to time. We will reach out to Him and He will always steady us. As we lean into Him, He leans into us.
“The life of every living thing is in His hand…”
Praise be to our great Lord. Creator of the world
