Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice…”
– Hebrews 3:7 (NKJV)
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”
– Revelation 3:22 (NKJV)
Can you imagine sleeping for eight years!
Gene Tipps, of Seymour, Texas did. He was in a very serious automobile accident. He was in a coma for three weeks, after which he remained in a state of unconsciousness for eight years…from May 21, 1967 to 1975. His story is a long one, but it ends well.
When it comes to spiritual things, some of us have been asleep a lot longer than that. Some have slept in peace with the assurance that others will keep watch on their soul for them. And we do…faithfully…we pray for them. We gently remind them, all the while, that they believe they will be able to wake themselves up when necessary.
When Gene Tipps woke up, he felt and thought like the twenty-year-old he was when he had the accident. But he was now twenty-eight years old. Besides the physical rehabilitation, the hardest thing was that mentally he never regained the years he slept.
My point is: God has given the spiritually sleeping a big wake-up shake! Those who slept in peace need to realize that the church and its’ prayer warriors may not always be there to keep them awake or to wake them up.
This sounds as though I’m speaking to those who are asleep. But…those who are asleep can’t hear me. You though, they may be able to hear.
Just because we can’t assemble as a church doesn’t mean we are less needed. Now is the time for the church to reach its greatest potential, through prayer. Our next great awakening could be starting right now at home! In countries around the world this is what is most effective: prayer and scripture reading at home.
Our church is a wonderful blessing and a great tool we will be using again soon. But, in the meantime, you can be having your own spiritual awakening. Thank God for this time of few distractions. Now let Him grow in your soul.
I really am anticipating a full house when we get back together! Full of people on fire for the Lord! Why? Because they used this time of distancing to draw closer to the Lord.
As we distance ourselves from the things of the world, we should be drawing closer to our Lord and Savior.
The scriptures can be read, memorized, meditated upon.
You may come back to church wiser and more prepared than ever!
Romans 13:11-12 (NKJV)
And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed the night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.
