“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Proverbs 3:5-6

The other day, I heard a story that explains how to capture a monkey.
The hunter would cut a small hole into a coconut, just big enough so that the monkey could put his open hand into it.
He then would put a banana or sweet rice that the monkey would like. The monkey would come along and stick its hand into the coconut. However once the monkey closed its’ hand around the treat, its hand was too big to come out of the hole.
The monkey would struggle and struggle. It never realized that it just had to let go.
We are like that sometimes, aren’t we? We know that something isn’t good, but we still do it. We all have sin in our lives. No one is above sin. The apostle Paul wrote:
“Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (2 Corinthians 12:7-9)
It might be lying, stealing, pride, envy, or other things that are destructive. Anything that prevents us from surrendering to Him fully is destructive for our lives.
What are the sins in your life that still get in the way? God wants you let go and trust in Him.
Here are words to the worship song “It is well”:
Grander earth has quaked before
Moved by the sound of His voice
Seas that are shaken and stirred
Can be calmed and broken for my regard
And through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
And through it all, through it all
It is well
And through it all, through it all
My eyes are on You
And it is well with me
And far be it from me to not believe
Even when my eyes can’t see. And this mountain that’s in front of me
Will be thrown into the midst of the sea.
So let go my soul and trust in Him
The waves and wind still know His name
It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
It is well with my soul
It is well
It is well with my soul
Thank you for this post. Neat connection about the monkey. True that too often we hold on to petty sins in our lives. Praise God it is well with my soul.
