“The Spirit of Lawlessness”

I read a newsletter written by Mike Wigfield. It is published monthly.

In July’s newsletter, he wrote an article entitled “The Spirit of Lawlessness at the End of This Age.”

“Why do the nations rage, and the people plot a vain thing?”

Psalm 2:1

It was an excellent explanation of our experiences with today’s lawlessness!

The spirit of lawlessness has gripped our nation in what seems to be overnight!

All our laws and guidelines we thought we had in place to prevent this time of crime and lawlessness have failed!

We can learn from this.

If you know your history, this has happened before… not only in the United States… but in many countries.

In each case, it got worse before it got better.

In Mike’s article he says–and I agree–that it is a reflection of where we are as a nation and world spiritually.

It is rebellion against God and God’s Law!

Remember, God Himself said “obey the laws of the land.”

Pray for those in authority over you!

Have we been faithful to do that?

God’s Word is the foundation of law and order in this country since our beginning.  Our trouble in our country is a direct result of turning away from God’s moral teaching!

Christians – wake up! When God tells us not to do something – HE MEANS IT!

What’s happening to our nation, our world… ought to make us cry out in prayer for each other.  We should be shedding tears asking for forgiveness of our sins.

Our sins… meaning… mine and yours!

I need a Savior right now!

Jesus is the answer!

He can heal our land and forgive us of our fornicating way of life!

Lawlessness is a defiant spirit against God and all who hold true to His Word.

The Holy Spirit has in the past, used our conscience to internally restrain us from sinning.

There seems to be few Christians or non-Christians who listen to their conscience.

Repeated willful sinning always silences the inner voice of our conscience.

(Mike Wigfield has written a book call “Living in a World With No Conscience”)

This produces “toxic hate” and acts of “brutal violence”.

Red Romans 1:29-32 and 2 Timothy 3:1-7.

“being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, discerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.”

Romans 1:29-32

“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

2 Timothy 3:1-7

Those scriptures describe us today.  As a nation, we have really gotten ourselves in a mess.

Two things have to be restored:

1. The acceptance of God Almighty and His Word

2. Let Him repair our conscience

We need people with a strong Godly conscience in our churches, schools, all levels of leadership.

Without a resurgence of repentance and a hunger for God, we may very clearly be headed to the end of time!

One last quote from Mike Wigfield: “The Bible testifies that when the end comes, a lawless people will demand a lawless government.  These evil governments will prepare the way for the anti-christ, who in the Bible is called ‘the lawless one.’”
