Memorizing God’s Word

“He Sustains Us Through His Word”

Our memory verses for this week are:

“But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to sin, it would be better for him if a millstone were hung around his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea.”

Matthew 18:6

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.”

Psalm 1:1-3

You may remember that this list of Scriptures I am drawing from was published by “The Voice of the Martyrs”.

In some “foreign” lands, Christians have to meet in secret to worship and pray.  Bibles are not plentiful and you could be in danger if you were caught with one.  So… in those secret times of gathering, they will meet and memorize verses to keep in their hearts.

I was in such a country.  We gathered with believers and I was amazed how many different ones had committed to memory, not just a verse or two, but whole chapters and some whole books of the Bible.  It was amazing!

We had brought Bibles with us to distribute.  Once we got into the country, they were taken from us at several different locations.

When we met again as a church, in secret, the Bibles… at least some, had been torn apart.  They had taken one Bible and distributed parts of it around to several families to be memorized!

When we had our gatherings, these families would recite their scripture verses, chapters, whole books of the Bible and then pass the pages to someone else to memorize.  It was amazing.  It was humbling.  We sang… we prayed… and we listened to the Word of God flow from the hearts of these believers.

I will never forget my trip to China!

As I was preparing and studying to write this blog, I read that the underground church in China was the fastest growing church in the world!

I BELIEVE IT!
