One of the things I like to do as I read the scriptures is write down just one thing, one quick takeaway from the section. It’s a simple practice that anybody can do, it helps to reinforce what I’ve read, and it gives me an opportunity to engage with what the Holy Spirit might be trying to teach me.
This is my “quick thought” from today’s reading in Mark.
“And a voice from heaven said, ‘You are my dearly loved Son, and you bring me great joy.’” ~Mark 1:11
What had he done? What had he accomplished? Nothing, absolutely nothing measurable by worldly standards!
At this point, he hasn’t healed anybody, and yet the Son is dearly loved by the Good Father. He hasn’t walked on water, calmed the sea, or prepared a meal for thousands with little more than a sack lunch, and yet the Son brings great joy to the Good Father. Jesus had yet to do anything that we would consider successful or miraculous and he’s still dearly loved by the Good Father who joyfully delights in his Son.
This is the “sonship” we’ve been adopted into! As children of The Good Father, we are sons and daughters who are dearly loved! “Great joy” is the Good Father’s boast about you and me, and nothing can change that. Nothing, absolutely nothing!
This is what I heard in my daily reading today, what did you hear?
