One of the things I like to do as I read the scriptures is write down just one thing, one quick takeaway from the section. It’s a simple practice that anybody can do, it helps to reinforce what I’ve read, and it gives me an opportunity to engage with what the Holy Spirit might be trying to teach me.
This is my “quick thought” from today’s reading in Psalms 51-53.
“Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you. Then I will teach your ways to rebels, and they will return to you.” ~Psalms 51:12-13
Who’s going to tell the rebels? They have to know, somebody has to tell them so that they can return home!
As we are filled with joy and obedience, we have the privilege of participating in the gospel by teaching “rebels” about Jesus! As ambassadors for Christ, where do we live? We may be citizens of Heaven, but we live in community with the the beloved rebels so that they too can be reminded of their heritage in the family of God.
What a joy, what a privilege, that we who were once rebels now get to share the good news with those who don’t know. We get to go to them and tell them that the celebration is waiting for them at home!
This is what I heard in today’s reading, what did you hear?
