One of the things I like to do as I read the scriptures is write down just one thing, one quick takeaway from the section. For me, it’s a process that helps me move from simply reading the Word to allowing the Word to read me.
It’s a simple practice that anybody can do, it helps to reinforce what I’ve read, and it gives me an opportunity to engage with what the Holy Spirit might be trying to teach me.
This is my “quick thought” from today’s reading in John 1-2.
“No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.” ~John 1:18
Jesus is God!
He’s not a part of God, he’s not an aspect of God’s character, he wasn’t created by God, and he’s not one of three separate Gods. Jesus is God, the Father is God, the Holy Spirit is God, and they live in a state of mutual indwelling.
The Trinity is three in one. God is one, all three persons of the Trinity possess all of the divine nature, and as a result, all three mutually live within each other in a beautiful dance of divinity.
Jesus is also completely human and he’s our access point to God. If you want to know what the beautiful dance of divinity looks like, seeing it through Jesus is the only way. However, he doesn’t just want us to “see” it, or understand it, or dissect it like a science experiment, he invites us into the beautiful dance! He goes to the fringes and invites every “wallflower” to participate in this beautiful dance with him!
If you want to know God, if you want to participate in Life with him, if you what to dance … Jesus is consistently and persistently inviting you on to the dance floor to experience Life the way it was designed to be experienced in relationship with the one Triune God.
This is what I heard in today’s reading, what did you hear?
